Use Folder Lock only within a tested matter workflow
Folder Lock may fit a small firm that needs encrypted lockers and selected sharing or cloud-locker workflows on supported systems. It does not replace legal scope decisions, provider permissions, enterprise identity management, independent backups or tested password recovery.
The firm pilots Folder Lock with a non-production discovery set. It records version and licensing, tests locker creation, import, lock/unlock, sharing, backup relationship and recovery limits, then approves only the matter types and systems that passed.
Run the control in five steps
- 01Verify the current version, licensing and supported environment.
- 02Create a test locker and import a representative minimized set.
- 03Test access, revisions, sharing and plaintext residue.
- 04Run an independent backup and recovery exercise.
- 05Document approved uses, exclusions and support ownership.
Preserve a defensible decision trail
Keep version, installer source, license, system, locker location, test manifest, access results, sharing destination, residue review, backup test, recovery limits, approved matter classes and review date.
Stop and investigate when
- Marketing screenshots are treated as independent assurance.
- Cloud locker behavior is treated as guaranteed backup.
- The product is used instead of recipient or provider permissions.
State what the control does not prove
Does not replace provider permissions, guaranteed backup, password recovery or enterprise identity management. Validate preservation, authorization, plaintext copies, provider controls and recovery separately.
Test each product view against the matter workflow

Confirm the current release, supported systems, encryption boundary, provider permissions, recovery behavior and plaintext residue.
Legal discovery security questions
Does Folder Lock replace document-management permissions?
